RedHawks Win Northern League Title

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks won the Northern League Championship in four games with a 12-2 win Saturday night before a CanWest Global Park crowd of 6,862.

Northern League Championship Series MVP Todd George (7.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 SO) beat the Goldeyes for the second time in four days to run his playoff record to 2-0. Brad Purcell (2.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 1 SO) took the loss to fall to 1-1.

Eight of nine RedHawks got at least one hit, seven of nine scored at least one run and six of nine drove in at least one run. Ruben Salazar (3-5, HR, 2B, 3 R, 5 RBI) led the charge, as his two-run double in the second and his three-run home run in the third gave George more than enough to work with.

Fargo-Moorhead opened the scoring with three in the second and got three more in the third to chase Purcell. Max Poulin broke the shutout with a one-out solo home run in the bottom of three, but that was as close as it would get.

The teams traded runs in the seventh to make it 7-2 before the RedHawks got one more in the eighth and four more in the ninth to conclude the scoring.
